Moose error ‘offensive’

Re: Moose vanishing in region, July 16

As a moose who's lived in Nopiming Provincial Park for nearly 10 years, I can tell you that your publication has ignited quite a storm of controversy here.

After opening last week's Leader, I feel compelled to comment on what is a glaring and downright offensive error on page 3.

As many readers have no doubt noticed, the moose in the photograph used alongside your article are, in actuality, elk.

Do you not know the difference between an elk and a moose, or are you of the opinion that all members of the deer family look the same? I sincerely hope that you are not bigoted enough to hold this sort of worldview.

Yes, we moose may be a member of the deer family, which also includes elk, but we in no way resemble them except for the fact we also have antlers.

Needless to say, any future stories you publish regarding my species will be looked at by my friends and I with great scrutiny. This sort of insensitive error is simply inexcusable, and insults all moose everywhere.
